S. J. Ludescher was born in a small town near
Chicago, but grew up in southern California. She began oil painting at 13 and
was soon selling many seascapes and character studies, much as commissioned
work. Her paintings were chosen for permanent collections with the Laguna
Beach Festival of Art, and International Red Cross in Washington D.C.
After a move to Washington State, she added a mastery of
watercolors to her repertoire. Galleries and exhibits embraced the brilliant
colors of her palette, derived from her California years. Her work was
featured in five solo and numerous group shows. Ms. Ludescher's paintings have
been chosen for calendars, international magazine covers and corporate
collections, two in a collection in Tokyo, Japan. Her work was also placed at
Walk in the Wild Zoo-Spokane, Washington and numerous other private, corporate
and small business collections.
Ms. Ludescher’s interest in writing and photography
turned her attention to journalism. She accepted freelance assignments from
coast-to-coast and moved to Eastern Europe as a staff journalist for an
English newspaper. In 1998, she became the investigative reporter on a
newspaper in western New Mexico. The gorgeous skies and vivid colors of New
Mexico reawakened her desire to capture these on canvas. In 2002, Ms.
Ludescher left a position with the Albuquerque Tribune to pursue painting
full-time. Even as an accomplished musician and award-winning journalist, she
is and has always been through it all, a painter. Each and every painting is
a celebration of that commitment.
