Katina Zinner

To me, oil is the most sensual and malleable medium of all. Through the use of contrast of wetness, dryness, shapes and lines it can be built up to have solidity and movement. Its unlimited array of colors and possibilities is an ever-growing fascination to me.

Many of   my pieces are inspired through my personal connection to nature.  I draw a large part of the color selection and composition from what I observe around me. Long hikes in the wilderness greatly influence my choices of color and how the light plays with hues and shadows. Fascinated by the depths and beauty of the natural world I return to my studio with mental notes and translate these observations in to layers of oils I use on the canvas.

“I do not have to travel far to be inspired”  Katina Zinner

Katina began painting at a very early age. She had her first solo show by age eleven at the Lisa Burnham Gallery in Oakland.Ca.

A native of Los Angeles, Katina was educated both in the US and Europe. In Los Angeles she attended Art Center College of Design where she studied graphic design, drawing and painting. She also attended U.C.L.A., The Idyllwild Arts Academy and Santa Monica City College.

While living and traveling abroad she enjoyed extensive exposure to the arts and cultures of many different regions. Throughout her travels, her painting has remained a constant passion with the work changing and evolving as her travels and life experiences have transformed her as a person and as an artist.

While pursuing her art career, Katina has simultaneously gained notoriety as a feature film editor for such studios as Paramount, Universal, HBO, Showtime, ABC, USA Networks, TNT and a myriad of independent filmmakers.

Her latest film “Soldier’s Girl” for Showtime has been submitted for an Emmy for best film editing.

Large in scale, her paintings surround and envelope the viewer providing an ambience that induces contemplation by transporting the audience to a space of her creation.

Shapes, lines and textures along with the power, simplicity and magnificence of nature constantly inspire her.

Her work is spontaneously conceived and vigorously executed, capturing the emotions of the moment with immediacy and expressiveness through the use of color and movement.

Katina is restless by temperament. She shifts her focus when she feels her series no longer presents a challenge. She repeatedly redefines her process causing her work to shift in unpredictable directions.
